Hi everyone,

It's been some time since I last updated the website with a new tutorial. Don't worry, I haven't forgotten the Fractal series. I've got some fun Mandelbrot stuff coming along. In the time since I last uploaded anything here I joined the MAV, a VFX Masters' course at the ALA!

It's a one year degree from the Animal Logic Academy which is a partnership between Animal Logic (Peter Rabbit, the Lego movies) and the University of Technology, Sydney. The year is spent simulating work in a proper studio environment, the entire cohort works on projects together and are divided into departments found along a conventional production pipeline e.g. design, storyboard, layout, FX, modelling, animating, rigging, compositing, lighting and editing.

I started about a month ago. Most of that time has been spent doing aptitude tests and working on the story for the short film we'll be making this year. We've just started pre-production and divided up into our departments. I'm in FX and will be for most of the year. We've got some talented artists on board and the leads have a ton of experience we can draw from. I can't tell you too much about the project but I'm excited for what we going to be making and learning more about SideFX Houdini this year.

Speaking of which, I've got some fractal things in Houdini that should be appearing on this website soon! As well as the usual Blender stuff, of course. Geometry nodes should be coming out soon so I'll try to do what I can for that once it's out. Feel free to send any questions to steambeanblog@gmail.com. I enjoy hearing from you guys.
